Nicholas Petruzzi MD, FSVM, DABR
Director of the Vascular Institute

Director, Interventional Oncology

A native of South Jersey, Dr. Petruzzi began his career path at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in cellular biology while graduating with honors. He completed his medical school training at the prestigious Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA. He graduated in the top of his class and was recognized for his academic achievements being nominated for membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society. He completed his internship at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA and his Diagnostic Radiology residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Having a desire to pursue the minimally invasive and image-guided treatment of both cancer and peripheral vascular disease, he went on to advanced fellowship training in Interventional Radiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Petruzzi has authored articles in the field of Interventional Oncology, being published numerous times in highly respected medical journals. He was the first in this region to pioneer the minimally invasive treatment of liver tumors and was the first physician in both Atlantic and Cape May counties to perform Y-90 radioembolization.

Dr. Petruzzi also focuses on the treatment of peripheral vascular disease. He has extensive experience in performing complex peripheral interventions for occlusive arterial disease to aid with healing of chronic wounds. He has published manuscripts and delivered lectures on today’s cutting-edge techniques for treating both arterial and venous disease. Above all, Dr. Petruzzi believes in true patient centered care and is passionate about educating both physicians and patients on vascular disease.

Michael J. Schmidling MD, RPVI, DABRMichael J. Schmidling MD, RPVI, DABR

Dr. Michael Schmidling is a New Jersey local having received his formalized training through an accelerated B.S.-M.D. Joint Degree Program at Rutgers University and UMDNJ Medical School. During his time in medical school he received many honors including acceptance into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical and graduated in the top 5% of his class. He excelled academically and in research co-founding the B.S./B.A-M.D. Research Program. He has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented posters at national meetings.

After completing his training, he worked with University Radiology Group and served as Assistant Professor at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, a tertiary care center in New Brunswick. While at University Radiology Group, he first became interested in treatment of varicose veins and minimally invasive treatments of cancer, now termed interventional oncology. He opened a vein center, and began treating patients with all types of venous disease.

In 2007 Dr. Schmidling joined Atlantic Medical Imaging, one of the premier radiology groups in New Jersey. He has continued treating venous disease and currently is the Co-Director of the Vascular Institute at Atlantic Medical Imaging. He has played a critical role in developing an Interventional Oncology program here in South Jersey and continues to perform all types of minimally invasive procedures including uterine artery embolization, angiography and angioplasty, and treatment of vertebral compression fractures with kyphoplasty. In 2013 he was honored as “Top Doc” in the NJ Monthly Magazine.

Dr. Schmidling currently serves as section chief of the Division of Interventional Radiology at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center.

Rajesh I. Patel MD, DABRRajesh I. Patel MD, DABR

Dr. Rajesh Patel received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California. He then went on to study medicine at Hahnemann University School of Medicine. He completed his Diagnostic Radiology Residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. He underwent additional subspecialty training in Interventional Radiology at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital in New York.

Dr. Patel is a board certified Diagnostic Radiologist. He is an Attending Physician at Atlanticare Regional Medical Center. His clinical interests include women’s health, peripheral arterial disease and critical limb ischemia.

Christopher Kim, MD, DABRRajesh I. Patel MD, DABR

Born in Philadelphia and raised in South Jersey, Dr. Kim attended Duke University in Durham, North Carolina and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He returned to Philadelphia to complete medical school and diagnostic radiology residency training at Jefferson Medical College and Albert Einstein Medical Center where he developed a special interest in interventional radiology.

Dr. Kim then completed a fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at the University of Virginia before returning to South Jersey to join the Vascular Institute at Atlantic Medical Imaging. He has special interest in aortic and peripheral arterial interventions, critical limb ischemia, and interventional oncology.

Jacinto Camarena III, MD, DABR

Dr. Camarena completed his undergraduate education with honors at California State University and attended Howard University College of Medicine. He completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Rochester Medical Center and pursued additional fellowship training in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Camarena practices a wide breadth of Interventional Radiology and has a special interest in minimally invasive cancer treatments. He strives to educate his patients and provide compassionate, patient-centered care.

Mike Watts, MD, DABR

Dr. Watts is an interventional radiologist dedicated to providing the highest level of service through clinical excellence and a commitment to patient and family centered care.

Dr. Watts graduated from Colgate University in 2002 with a major in Chemistry. He attended the University of Buffalo for his medical training, earning his MD in 2006, completed surgical internship and radiology residency at the Cleveland Clinic in 2011 and his fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania in 2012.

Dr. Watts has specialized in advanced peripheral arterial disease techniques, minimally invasive cancer treatments, venous disease, and management of portal hypertension. He has been invited to speak on these topics at multiple regional, national, and international conferences. Committed to education, he acted as the Interventional Radiology fellowship director and the University of Pennsylvania and created one of the first Interventional Radiology residencies in the country. His devotion to hands-on teaching of complex techniques has driven him to continuous improvement through a commitment to life-long learning and innovation of novel procedural techniques.

Since 2016, he has been committed to limb preservation, treating CLI on a full time basis using advanced and innovative techniques to bring unsurpassed quality of care to patients throughout Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Mitchell H. Brezel MD, DABR, Chairman,

Dr. Brezel received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University in New York. He went on to complete his medical school training at New York University School of Medicine. He studied Diagnostic Radiology at the State University of New York Health Sciences Center and served as chief resident during his time there. Having an interest in image guided interventions he underwent subspecialized training in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at Yale – New Haven Hospital in Connecticut.

Dr. Brezel is a board certified Diagnostic Radiologist. His clinical interests include the entire breadth of interventional radiology and the minimally invasive treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms.

He serves as the current Chairman of the Department of Radiology at Atlanticare Regional Medical Center.

Advanced Nurse Practitioner at AMI

Jamie Roesch is the Vascular Interventional Advanced Nurse Practitioner at Atlantic Medical Imaging. She first obtained her Bachelor of Nursing from Thomas Jefferson University School of Philadelphia. She then went on to complete her Master of Science in Nursing degree with a concentration in Adult-Gerontology as a Nurse Practitioner from Stockton University. Jamie graduated with Honors and is an active member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. In addition to evaluating patients at the time of consultation and at follow-up visits, she also performs select interventional procedures.

Besa Tutra, RN, MSN, APN-BCundefined

Besa is a Vascular Interventional Nurse Practitioner, with over 2O years of diverse medical experience. She initially received her medical degree from University of Tirana, Faculty of Medicine. Upon moving to the United States, she completed her Bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing at Thomas Jefferson University School of Nursing in Philadelphia. She evaluates and educates patients on vascular disease at the time of consultation and at follow-up visits and also performs select interventional procedures.

Kamal F. Kassis MDKamal F. Kassis MD

Dr. Kamal Kassis joined the Vascular Institute at Atlantic Medical Imaging on July 1, 2017. He brings 36 years of experience in vascular surgery. Dr. Kassis performs all types of vascular procedures including carotid surgery, repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms, treatment of peripheral vascular disease, limb salvage procedures and wound care and has extensive experience in all types of dialysis access.

Dr. Kassis is fellowship trained in vascular surgery. He is an attending physician at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. Dr. Kassis is ready to provide the best care for his patients.

Richard A. Menghetti MD, MS, DABRRichard A. Menghetti MD, MS, DABR

Dr. Menghetti received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Earlham College in Pennsylvania. He went on to complete his medical school training at the University Autonoma de Guadalajara and the University of Maryland. He studied Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Pennsylvania and completed is fellowship in neuroradiology at Thomas Jefferson University.

Dr. Menghetti is a board certified Diagnostic Radiologist. His clinical interests include interventional functional imaging and neuroradiology.
